I liked this one a lot until I realized they just turned another black lead into a creature like they do in all animated films with black leads.
Still, I think this movie has some quality messages and I liked seeing black American culture presented in an accurate and positive way.
This is like if Noah Baumbach directed a horror film...it's hard to tell if it's actually creepy or if it's just awkward. I liked the overall mood of the movie but the ending felt like it was only the way it was for the purpose of not giving the audience what it expected. I literally laughed at the punchline of it. Ultimately forgettable but not regrettable.
Tom Holland's love for his work is so evident in this documentary. It's really darling to hear him talk about it with such an adoration. The entire primary cast (save Roddy McDowell RIP) were interviewed for the doc, and most importantly, so were the members of the effects and make up crew. This portion of a horror documentary is make or break as far as I'm concerned, and I enjoyed nothing more than seeing the methods used to create the transformation of Evil Ed (possibly my favorite on screen transformation in all of horror). Perfection.
