A movie broken into three parts, each coinciding with a woman the Djinn loved. Idris Elba tells Tilda Swinton his story which is very interesting to see play out. Once he finishes, she wishes to be the next great love of his so that her story and memory will live forever. Very poetic sentiments but the ending moves so fast. I wish they would have extended that third part and told a fuller story with her and the Djinns life together.

The Raid 2011
An hour and a half of greatness with a minimal story that just serves to get you to the next amazing fight scene. The fight sequences are the best I’ve ever seen with every hit feeling devastating and flowing so seamlessly into the next. This is the only movie where every actor actually looks like they’re trying to kill each other. The kills are brutal and creative and captivating to watch. An action classic.

The first half is mostly a standard catholic horror movie, but after some pretty gruesome body horror scenes, it escalates into a more interesting finale. Sydney Sweeney does a pretty good job acting throughout, but she really steps it up in the last scene of the movie. It is so intense and visceral. I wish that sentiment had been more present throughout the film. There were some great ideas like the mad scientist priest and the torturous practices held around the church that I would have loved to see fleshed out a little more instead of the surface level introductions that we’re left with.

Tucker and Dale vs. Evil 2010

A comedy that’s not really haha funny but comical because the ridiculousness of the situation with a group of teens accidentally killing themselves in an attempt to save their friend. Also a horror that’s gory at times but never actually scary. Overall a fun movie.
