Taste of Cherry 1997
This is now the fourth time i've seen Taste of Cherry, and I can now say with full certainty that it is my favourite film.
It's slow, meditative and has a meta ending, which I would normally dislike but something about the presentation and performances just blows me away. Taste of Cherry is the only film that makes me cry consistently on rewatches, because its sad, but also because is so sincere and beautiful.
If this film is ever topped as my favourite ot would have to be by some minor miracle.

Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters 1985
It's so fascinating to watch a film that spends nearly all its runtime essentially hyping up the protagonist for their blaze of glory. And when it gets to it its sad, pathetic and kind of comical. Mishima himself didn't understand the point of his own books and the finale of this film is perfect in showing this.
