  i think that by presenting (albeit somewhat exaggerated) effects of aging as something to gross out the audience and treating its female characters quite cruelly for trying to deal with patriarchal standards, the substance winds up contradicting the message it so desperately wants to portray (and believe me, it beats the audience over the head with what it wants you to know). it so badly wants to critique patriarchal beauty standards but winds up narratively punishing the women who have to face those standards by saying "well this is what you wanted, isn't it?" and overall comes off as quite misogynistic
