"The Hunt for Red October" is a choose your own adventure type of film.

Action movie junkies can watch "Red October" and appreciate it at surface level for the torpedoes, mammoth ships and even bigger set pieces.

Meanwhile, for viewers who want something more from the story, the film can be seen as a game of chess between Dr. Jack Ryan (Alec Baldwin) and Capt. Marko Ramius (Sean Connery). A game where a wrong move means a lot more than…

“By the way, I would’ve voted for Obama for a third term if I could.”

The first time I saw “Get Out,” shortly after its release in the winter of 2017, I didn’t appreciate the film the way I should’ve.

Upon revisiting it recently on a Saturday night in quarantine, I finally realized what I should’ve known all along - “Get Out” is a masterpiece.

Jordan Peele’s script should be required reading for aspiring screenwriters for the next 100 years.…

    The Holdovers

    ★★★★★

Beautifully set at a New England boarding school during Christmas break in 1970, The Holdovers is a masterfully layered exploration of abandonment, loneliness, tragedy, and unfulfilled potential.

Paul Giamatti, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, and Dominic Sessa‘s complex performances will have you laughing and crying from scene to scene.

Released in a movie year defined by Barbie and Oppenheimer, Alexander Payne’s smaller, more contemplative film deserves a spot among the best works of 2023.

The battle scenes keep this from being a complete dud. It’s somehow both painfully slow in spots, and moves too quickly in others. You’ll need an intimate knowledge of Napoleon’s life going into the theater as Ridley Scott isn’t going to hold your hand or help you get a grasp of the geopolitical landscape of the time.

This movie holds up pretty well on rewatch. It was a lot funnier the second time than I thought it would be.

I'm bummed I have to wait a week for the next two parts, I could have watched all 10 episodes tonight.

The access to the 1997-1998 Bulls the film crew had is incredible. Jordan and Scottie Pippen are raw and honest at times in a way I've never seen them be before.

I can't imagine how long it took the team of loggers/editors to go through decades worth of clips and soundbites.

A final miscellaneous thought: I love Jordan doing the interviews with a cigar and a glass of scotch on the table next to him.
