I liked this movie overall, which is surprising given how it began. Both acting and writing felt strange and dull at the outset. The first half of the movie, to be sure, was meant to be slow moving, but I think in this case the film bordered on unimaginative stagnation. An intriguing tale of what happens when your neighbours have too much time on their hands. So involved in each others’ lives, a new family of European immigrants worries the rest of the cul-de-sac. The twist? It turns out the weird family down the street were up to no good after all. “Never trust your neighbours” appears to be the moral of the story… unless they’re American WASP’s of course.
