  1917 was made to look like it was shot all in one take which made the film feel very immersive.  I immediately became attached to the two main characters and when it had such a shocking and emotional death very early on in the movie (of someone who I assumed would be someone who would stick it to the end) it felt like during the rest of the movie the audience was also dealing with that grief along with Will.
