  this was a very obvious analogy for rights movements across history, but it really can’t be faulted for how obvious it is, not when you consider that it was released in 1998. i think it does what it intends to do and sends the message that it wants to send, all through a very fun narrative. on top of that, the technical side of it all- the very lengthy process required to combine greyscale with colour- is very cool, and it includes a fiona apple song! it’s a good film :)

  no film makes me quite as pretentious as this one; i was sat in that theatre mouthing every scene and thinking “i bet no one else knows insert easter egg here,” despite the fact that other people most likely did. this is always a fantastic watch and will genuinely never get old (even if i have seen it 15+ times)
