Kingdom of Heaven 2005
Just watched the roadshow version of the director's cut (complete with overture and intermission!). Phenomenal film. It's the flip side of "Gladiator" - it's about the meaningless of violence, not how violence can enoble. Battles are thrilling but devastating. Edward Norton does some of the best acting I've ever seen behind a mask. Eva Green, just one year after her momentous breakout in "The Dreamers" is at once sexy, real, and heartbreaking. Easily one of the best film's of Sir Ridley's career. Bet it would have set the world on fire if the director's cut had come out in '05.

The Crow 1994
Alex Proyas is a dick (don't blame film critics for your failed career, dude; that's on you). But this movie's pretty fucking awesome. Brandon Lee (RIP) has a weird menacing/childlike quality. And as a "Strange Days" fan, I freak out every time I see Michael Wincott show up in a movie.
One caveat: I find Proyas' early work, including "Dark City," to be weirdly fast paced. But "The Crow" is cool enough to overcome that through sheer surrealistic punk brio.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence 2001
The best of the 2000s? Really, IndieWire? It's treacly, manipulative, and insulting.
