You could make a list of the 10 coolest things that have ever happened in cinema and 8 of them would be from this movie, while the other 2 would be from another Buster flick.

Went to a PowerPoint night with friends where I presented on the history of 3D, then got so hyped on the concept that I went looking for a movie I could watch in 3D.

My 4K player is capable of processing 3D BluRays; my TV is not. So, the alternative: 3D SBS (side-by-side) file converted to anaglyph (cyan-red) via VLC Player. I chose a first-time viewing (the trilogy will probably not be completed by this point, why keep waiting) and…

Clean, propulsive movie. Everybody loves a smart protagonist on the run and a smart detective (or federal marshal) who begrudgingly respects him. I feel bad for Dr. Richard Kimble, who tragically lost his beard.

    3. You’ve heard of them and they’re such a legend that their story deserves to be immortalized in all its specificity

Ali is the third kind, and while it does take a pretty standard biopic lens, and it is too long, I left it feeling glad I’d seen it. Biopics can be tiring.

    Maybe I’m wrong, but I feel…

    ★★★★

    Things Anora does really well:

    1. Observe the dangers of unchecked power
    2. Upend the Cinderella story
    3. Wander through Brighton Beach
    4. Have Toros
    5. Have Garnik
    6. Observe Ani through Igor’s eyes
    7. Tell an entire story just through the interactions between people and blue collar/service industry people

    Things Anora could do better:

    1. Pacing (the second half goes on too long)
    2. We didn’t have any additional surprise Toros buddies. We needed one more of those guys, I think

    Things…
