It's not a "good film" but it's got some great one-liners, I had a fun time with my kid, and I had a nice nap in the comfy seats at The Light.

Deserves 2.5 but I'm rounding it up to 3 because I had quite a good time even though it's deeply unserious and makes no sense. If you're going to revise history, the whole point is you're meant to add some fun twists and turns and play around with how things might have turned out differently. If not, I'd rather watch something based on what actually happened. There's already plenty of that in the case of Apollo 11, so maybe this movie just didn't need to exist?

I was expecting this to imagine the causes and ramifications of a civil war in modern-day America. That is not what this film is.

It could be set in any war, anywhere. It doesn't matter who is fighting who, or why; in fact the filmmakers don't go to any effort to explain either of these things.

Instead, we follow a tight accidental family unit as they work alongside each other, go through *some things* together, and influence each other in ways that don't become fully clear until the story reaches its gut-punching conclusion.

Tonally confusing, between laugh-out-loud satire and super serious family drama - but that doesn't really matter because overall this is a modern classic. God bless Jeffrey Wright and his excellent beard. Side note, I'm annoyed about how much I knew about this before watching it. The interviews and reviews I read/heard gave away a plot point that doesn't happen until well into the film.
