It’s like half the parts of a great movie and half the parts of a B+ movie. Some things were great, especially the design and visual elements. The story has holes but not in a distracting way. Hera is wonderful. Helm is a little exhausting but not in a bad way.
I liked it but it’s not a masterpiece. I do think we should do more fantasy movies in this style though.
Watched this today to fill in the gaps left by the sequel last night. I really liked it. Can see the strength of film language that lead it to its wins.
The sequence in Germania at the opening battle with the frame rate and the filter was really powerful. And somehow it set the stage for the rest of the film to not be to voyeuristic about it’s violence without judging the audience for wanting an action film.

Look I loved this musical when I saw it on broadway (2016,2019) and I am a borderline stan of both Cynthia and Ari, so take this with a grain of salt, but I loved this movie. It was a very enjoyable time and made functionally every single adaptational choice correct.
