Claustrophobically intimate and raw. Gena Rowlands does a fantastic job as Mabel. I thought the portrayal of mental health was really well done, as well as how mental health is dealt with in the 70's and I sympathised with Mabel a lot. Peter Falk of course plays Nick, her domineering blue-collar husband with anger issues. Both Rowlands and Falk play their characters perfectly. Falk scared the fuck out of me in this film multiple times, his constant fits of anger…

Considering the short description on this and the short play it was half based on I didn't really think I would enjoy it, but it was definitely worth the watch! This is my first Elia Kazan movie, as well as the first thing I've watched written by Tennessee Williams.

So ahead of it’s time, not just for it’s portrayal of lesbianism, but also it’s remarks against anti-authoritarianism!

Pretty safe as a film, but both SZA and Keke Palmer are super charming and cute in this! It doesn't overstay it's welcome, and it got a good few laughs out of me!
