  What a beautiful disaster.

  So America 3000 takes place in a future where women are enslaving men. English has changed in that time, so crazy new words are explained to us through a casual narration by the main character, with no explanation as to how HE knows what WE call these things.

  Also, there is a mutant gorilla running around the whole time that never adds one fucking thing to the plot.

  I really enjoyed Cloverfield when it first came out (plenty didn't) but I feel like it's actually gotten better with age if you compare it to ALLLLL the found footage crap that came in its wake. Like, it actually has a reason to be found footage and they find the structure within the gimmick and they balance the emotions of the typically inconsequential puny humans with the B-movie monster fun REALLY well. I showed it to a friend who'd only heard bad things and SURPRISE, it's a hoot.
