Surprisingly honest portray of a broken family. Wonderful acting, great camera work, and characters whose actions are sometimes very frustrating but that's because they also feel very real.
I really wanted to love this movie but I couldn't. The fact that every sentence (EVERY sentence!) was sung wasn't very helpful. I prefer movie musicals like Mamma Mia! in which dialogues are spoken and we get a few great musical numbers in between.
That said, the music was, of course, great. Especially Samantha Bark's 'On my Own' and Eddie Redmayne's 'Empty Chairs at Empty Tables'. The actors did a decent job. Sometimes it felt like they were over-acting their parts, but maybe it was necessary to keep the 'musical spirit'?
Horrible, scary, brutal. This movie, inspired by true events, kept me at the edge of my seat. Superb acting made this an exquisite experience, yet it should be said that it's hard to watch.
The acting might be superb but the movie seemed way too long and it feels like there should be something happening - some big twist or turning point - to make up for the more lengthy parts. Unsatisfying.
