Mickey 17 2025
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Swing and a miss. Way too thematically chaotic and underbaked, thudding political satire that seems to have been written for a world where Trump lost, distracting vocal affects and subpar performances, especially from Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette. So much doesn’t work.
Soundtrack is kind of interesting at least. Last place I expected to hear Elliott Smith.
The creeper baby dying was awful and almost worth walking out.
Yuck and yikes, no thanks!

Alien: Romulus 2024
Another victim of Corporate Sequelitis that’s not much more than a pastiche of all the previous films, including a handful of eye-roll direct quotes that totally sucked. Uncanny AI-resurrected Ian Holm did not do it for me at all and I hope this trend dies. 80% Aliens and 20% Alien, so too big, loud, and showy to be scary in any meaningful way. Giger imagery always satisfies at least.
