    A surprisingly charming and heartfelt offering considering the inherently cynical concept. It’s hard to live up to the Gene Wilder classic, but I’d pick this over the grotesque 05 remake any day.

    And for what it’s worth, all of the songs are better than “Cheer Up, Charlie.”

    The performances, costume and production design, Old Hollywood references, flight sequences and especially the MFING COLOR GRADING were all absolute treats. Scorsese and his team brought an attention to detail that made every shot feel like a separate work of art.

    Entertaining, inventive and unapologetically weird. Better Man gives the stale music biopic formula a much-needed jolt simply by replacing its lead with a CGI monkey. Don’t ask me how or why that works. It just does.

    And while I, as an American, stand by my nation’s decision to not make any of these songs crossover hits, the staging of the musical numbers made me see them in a new, non-skippable light. Big props to the filmmakers for crafting a long take so insanely good, I willingly listened to “Rock DJ” from start to finish.

    What’s stopping Netflix or whoever from making Superbia? They wouldn’t even have to do anything major, just a concert reading or something to satiate the curiosity of theater nerds everywhere. 

    It would be cheap to make, come with a built-in audience and plenty of stars who would want to do it, and it would get ten billion streams from me alone.
