  Just say you don’t know how to write an ending, instead of giving me sentient god baby who knows the secrets of the universe. It was impressive for its time, but it is no longer it’s time and I’m thoroughly confused. I think a better ending would’ve had a longer and more arduous build up to destroying HAL, given that he does control the ship. Eventually, when Dave gets to the room and is unlocking and dismantling HAL’s memories, the last one should’ve stuck. Dave turns the key and it doesn’t move. 

  “I’m sorry Dave.”

  As all the memory disks sink back in. The end.
