lead man by the mouth. desire and anger make the man a baby. anybody can be this man’s daddy, and can shape him in his image. this is the dread cycle of the man who lives as a slave to his desires and emotions. anybody can walk in and steal man’s entire life if they want it. make a single, personally motivated act in love, and man breaks the cycle. easier said than done when man’s so deep in the cycle he doesn’t know which way is his own, which thoughts are his own. spooky.

keeping robin williams on a short leash this whole movie- an interesting experiment in “letting the big dawg eat.” in collage with nathan lane’s aching, ferocious performance, you get this awful and sad feeling that armand used to be someone else- and it’s all there in this script, too. his past is just right at his heels and threatening to upend what feels like a beautiful dream in south beach, far from the acidic, ugly world that swarms them after their shithead kid comes home. cool movie
