Entertaining enough for a casual re-watch but NOTHING like the absolute perfection that was TLTWATW, the soundtrack reruns alone drove me NUTS. Did have a blast laughing with the kids over the unintentionally funny bits tho. WHY was there a moment in the climactic duel when the camera was literally a go pro strapped to somebody’s sword AS it connected with the other guy’s face? Ben Barnes I see you 🫶

Freaky man in bird did NOT endear me at all and I felt like things were rambling too much to actually let me latch onto the story or characters. But I rewatched at home for the third time over the break and it suddenly clicked???? The disorienting fall into a world with absolutely incomprehensible rules, stirring soundtrack (Joe hisaishi my beloved), gorgeous visuals (in the pelicans defense the warawara DID look so edible), and a really moving, under-the-surface story of a boy grieving his mother and learning how to live in the world again…it’s one of my fave ghiblis now. Even with all the freaky birds.
