  I love interpreting this flick as a story about a young gay man dealing with the shame of who he is and the way that kind of fear & pain can destroy you. Freddy feels like a predatory older man preying on an underage boy, and Jesse’s fear of becoming him makes me think of the fear so many queer people carry with us of becoming monstrous. Also, knowing about the screenwriters disgusting homophobia, treatment of mark patton, and the effect it had on his life decades after the movie came out breaks my heart.
