    One of the earliest pieces of media that my developing little brain can remember viewing. After nearly 35 years, here I am watching it again. Plain messages about friendship, love, duty, social status, accepting death, the passage of time, and perceived worth. Catchy songs that don't overstay their welcome, with sometimes surprisingly deep and meaningful lyrics.

    A cute story about talking farm animals is almost a veneer for what you actually get, which feels like a powerful message about the uselessness of suffering, and finding new happiness when loved ones are taken away. And then there's Templeton.

    OK. I base these ratings on how much I enjoyed something, not how well-made I think it was. At least, that's what I'm deciding as of right now to do. I wanted to rate this higher. It feels like it should be rated highly, but I can't do it. I'm not trying to be an objective film critic.

    I don't want to be insulting, but it felt like a confusing mess to watch. The entire movie had a weird pace…

    It knew what it wanted to be, and it showed us exactly what it was going to be within minutes of starting (respectable). Likeable characters and fun interactions. Not too broody or full of itself, but also not so detached from reality that I didn't care about the fate of some of the characters, either.
