Juvenile in a lot of right ways. Honestly just a fun and  simple horror-comedy. It aimed right about where it landed. I wish that the gore and kills had been a bit better; it definitely relied on exploding bodies way too much. But it was fun and just the definition of a flick. I could absolutely see why someone would not like this, but its tone worked for me. I would've absolutely adored this movie at 13, and I don't mean that as an insult.

I liked a lot of this, but I don't think it stuck the landing. The ending was corny which was a real shame, because a lot of the film, especially the start, reminded me of the tight and clever horror films like Barbarian or Hard Candy.

Funny enough, the whole premise of Mr. Reed's plan falls apart under a microscope, no different than what he says of religion. His whole plan was to just... Torture some random Mormons?? But really…

The fuck did I just watch??? Werner Herzog?? Jennifer Coolidge??? Nic Cage??? Iguana cam??? Was this bad intentionally?? I've never actually seen a Herzog film, is he like this??? Why?? Why is it so funny??

I'm struggling with the "it seems bad but it's secretly genius" take. Like, it's fucking hilarious. It's absolutely unhinged. But it doesn't feel particularly insightful underneath all its madness. I'm not saying it's not there, I'm just asking how much is actually the film and how much is having Herzog's name attached to this burning circus doing the legwork.

Still, there's not a lot out there like this one.

A really lovely, funny, and macabre film that excels in giving us the moody-outcast-goth-duo that we sorely need more of. The two lead performances were wonderful and the whole approach to vampires feels really fresh and engaging (a vampire child psychologist? Absolutely incredible).

The only real downside is the ending comes in a bit fast. I really enjoyed the structure and pacing but the ending is just sort of plopped in and it leaves the film feeling too loose and unresolved. Would have soared with a proper built-up conclusion.

Still, I really enjoyed this. Just a truly heartfelt and inventive film.
