When they say you can see the book come to life, this is what they mean. Several scenes were successfully and accurately recreated, than merely adapting them.
For someone who is not used to watching silent films, I found it commendable how the film manages to set the tone and mood of gothic horror using simply background music and visuals.
The influence of painting is pretty obvious here, and so is the "overacting" from theatre or opera. It stands the test of time, and is immortal like its antagonist (or should I say protagonist?).

All We Imagine as Light is a collection of stories of people that live among us, that pass us by, but seldom crosses our minds.
I have never been to Mumbai, but I have a feeling this would be how it feels like. A city with big promises that doesn't deliver. So we have to dream anew. Imagine there's light where there's none.
I believe a visit to the sea solves every problem. So it does in the film. One of the rare moments in cinema where the film gives everyone a closure of sorts.
