The second half is when it started to feel like a movie worthy of any Oscar chatter - it really builds in the final hour. I still feel that Baker half-asses his characters and suggests these characters have depth and layers but it is all surface level. I felt the same after watching the Florida project. Overall, very fun movie and worth a watch - best picture is crazy though

I've been sleeping on Cassavetes all these years. This is slow, awkward, frustrating, and moving - I can see why the film school nerds love it. This is so ahead of its time - 50 years ago - exploring male friendships and how emotions are expressed or repressed.
