this one just makes me sad as a comics nerd, but i had fun watching the trainwreck. the reshoots gave me a visceral reaction (to how badly shot they were) and yet they were still the best part. i had to restrain myself from laughing at the film in the theater, maybe i’m just not built for these movies anymore :((
the old pope loved turtles, i get why they’re all sad, he seemed great. but for real, this movie humanizes men of the cloth, worts and all, in a way i didn’t think was possible without coming across as preachy (literally) or valid, but difficult to watch stories of abuse within organized religion. somehow it balances the line of making them feel HUMAN, not better than us, not worse than us. just, like us. good stuff, fiennes carries this herculean role in a way that comes across effortlessly (give this man an oscar, doesn’t have to be this, but he has proven his skill best here)
