Idle Hands 1999
Hooptober 11: Film #15
This one bangs.
This stoner comedy meets paranormal body horror is undeniably well-executed. Its concept is original, its script is funny, its horror is unnerving and its special effects makeup is fabulous.
I enjoyed every character, every plot beat, every scare and every kill. I have practically no complaints with this one at all, though its deeper meaning is either missing or improperly communicated.
Its possible this story is a critique on sleeping through your life…

Re-Animator 1985
Hooptober 11: Film #14
While I was on board from the beginning with this one, I can honestly say it lost me after the two unfortunately long sexual exploitation and assault scenes.
I enjoyed some of the humor, the bold characters, the strong concept, the epic special effects makeup and the ruthless kills, but I unfortunately left the film with a bad taste in my mouth.
Its use of tension and understanding of horror is unquestionably artful, I just wish…

Pizza 2012
Hooptober 11: Film #8
Unpredictable and extremely effective in its horror and suspense throughout. Both campy and incredibly skillful, Pizza alternates between funny and bizarre and truly disturbing and terrifying. I haven't been this on edge during the climax of a horror movie in a minute.
Great acting, great storytelling and artful cinematography. Enjoyable from start to finish with an ending I didn't see coming.
Definitely worth a watch for its unnerving scares, original concept and exciting craftsmanship.
