Gosford Park is essentially a Downton Abbey x Agatha Christie hybrid, so chaos was bound to ensue; especially in a house that has so many bottles of poison that even the help use it to polish their pocket watches! It has an utterly preposterous premise courtesy of the ever idiosyncratic T. E. B. Clarke, however, where that could often be a detriment to the entertainment value of some of the Ealing comedies Clarke penned, that's not the case with Barnacle Bill. I was apprehensive of it at first, given that I've found the Ealing comedies to be rather like marmite, but I found this to be so infectiously enjoyable that I couldn't help but love it.
