The Peasants 2023
A technical masterpiece with a terrible story. Apparently the novel it’s based off is almost 1000 pages long, and cramming it in a movie did not work out for me. It feels unnecessarily traumatic and violent, maybe in the original context it makes more sense. I really did enjoy the dance scenes and the folkloric touches, however.

I guess the overall dreamy and weird ambiance of the movie was well translated on the screen. But frankly, all of the main’s character evolution was done almost exclusively via her relationship with men. And what I believe was supposed to be a tale about self discovery and sexual positivity was just this naive and innocent woman getting f*cked for 75% in the movie, also by men she hated or found repulsive.

La diffusion de ce genre de documentaire est absolument nécessaire pour comprendre réellement l’histoire de la Palestine et la résilience à toute épreuve du peuple de Gaza.
