Perfect Days 2023
Every toilet is a masterpiece.
Beautifully acted and paced. An analogue man out of step with the modern world. This slower speed allows him to observe the poetic beauty of the mundane. Shadows, light, these natural yet perfect moments punctuate a meditative film. And killer songs from the era he is stuck in yet hold space in the new world, both financially and culturally. The foreshadowing of his niece arriving on his doorstep was delicately played. Despite these soft and subtle narrative and visual elements, the cinematography strays into neon stylisation but does not feel out of place.
The ending shot acting deserves an Oscar alone.
