  I think everyone is misinterpreting the two halves of the film. The family melodrama is meant to show the juxtaposition between the problems black people have that isn’t typically depicted and the stuff that is, like police brutality or gang violence

  It was horrifying to watch Priscilla’s humanity and identity stripped from her as she is reduced to “Elvis’s wife.” By the middle of the film she’d been turned into just another decoration in Graceland with little more agency than the piano or tiger statue.
