Much too long. Repetitive, and in a way quite boring. Lacks comic relief or at least entertaining dialogue of previous films.
The film looks great, and technically the action sequences are really impressive.
Uninspiring villain character, and subplots and side characters that make you wonder why they are there at all.
Great music.
Fun, feel-good film. Not particularly deep, but entertaining performances from all and high production value.
Matt Damon’s character could do with being a bit less one-dimensional.
The Jordan family are portrayed very well. Viola Davis has a good performance.
Suspenseful!
Amazing how absorbing the film is whilst having minimal action or breadth of characters. Fantastic pacing, and also quite aesthetically pleasant as a film.
The nightmare scene of Scotty is fantastic and very off-putting (in a good way!).
Powerful ending, after seeing a man lose his mind twice and slowly try and put himself back together.
John Wayne parts of film are excellent. His journey and unpredictability in action is great to watch. A lot can be read into without explicitly being shown to the viewer. The shots back to the homestead I suppose offer some comic relief, as do some of the side characters, but I almost think the film would have a better intensity if we saw less of that.
The landscapes are shot incredibly, and the fixed camera often works really well.
