I'm fairly conflicted and have to admit that I've struggled with Eggers in the past. I think The Lighthouse is a masterpiece but find The Witch to be dreary and far too self indulgent. Nosferatu isn't dreary, it is haunting and engaging, until Nandor's creepy Uncle Orlok arrives at the port, that is. Some sequences are masterfully conceived but the whole, beautifully shot, product is constrained by its source material. The last act feels like an auteurs rendition of the…

I've had a couple of anxiety dreams about an upcoming project and so that first hour stressed me out, far beyond good health but, holy shit, the third act evoked such an unexpected emotional reaction from me.

It's tonally inconsistent, plasticky, convoluted and ultimately, an inconsequential mess. Their marketing team should be given a raise for getting me hot enough to want to see this. Again and again, Marvel, if you treat your audience like idiots, they'll…

I may not be millions of miles away right now but a few cities is enough for this to hit home. A gentle, humbling reminder of those that love us more than anything we dream the world can give. Cherish them, listen to them, love them. In the end, you won't think of anything else.

I have to start by saying that the marketing for this film was impeccable. Seeing this opening weekend, with a full cinema, was pretty great too. The opening is excellent; it sucks you in and doesn't let go, only loosening its grip as the credits roll. After a near-perfect first act, I was initially disappointed with how they wrapped things up but the ambiguity of the ending has rattled away in my brain like a loose screw all week and…
