Satire as subtle as a sledgehammer.
The satire of Parasite also wasn't subtle, but everything surrounding the satire operated like a perfect machine. It wasn't filled with noisy caricatures and a meandering narrative that can't stick to one plot thread for more than 15 minutes.
Really disappointed by this one.
I loved this so much.
It has the oppressive architecture of Lang’s Metropolis and the bird-in-a-cage loneliness of Melville’s Le Samurai. More than anything, it has the disfigured, misunderstood outcasts of Burton’s own Edward Scissorhands.
All together, it’s just a little too much. But in a time when superhero movies are either too self-serious or too self-referential, this is a tall, refreshing glass of sewer water.
