  Was gonna write something snarky like "are we really gonna give him best actor for playing the same character twice" but I think this is very good and his performance is remarkable. I just wish another 29 year old in a physically transformative role could win this year, is all.

  I was hoping to love this, but thinking about it for the last few days hasn't warmed me to it. It's severe without a sense of humor - something that can't be said for THE LIGHTHOUSE, a better movie and my favorite Eggers' - and feels like it was made in service of its images rather than the inverse. Unlike his prior films, the specificity of the production design isn't adding anything substantive to the finished product; it's suffocating anything interesting around it. This movie is "an oil painting in a dentist's office." (I can't believe A COMPLETE UNKNOWN is better, maybe I'm washed)

  Similar to TWISTERS, if you don't try to hang too much on it you'll enjoy it, because it's designed to be. Timmy as good as advertised. Really captures how annoying musicians are when they see a guitar. Monica Barbaro in profile hate-singing at Bob is the sexiest thing I've ever seen. She should be in the conversation for Supporting Actress.
