6 month full time unpaid internship with only a 5% chance at the entry level position is CRIMINAL and the movie acts like it’s a normal thing.
Honestly, I was expecting a different tone, but they went with glamorizing suffering under capitalism, complaining about taxation, and supporting the “pull yourself up by the bootstraps” myth.
That being said, Will Smith’s performance with his son is absolutely fantastic, with quite a few memorable scenes. I really enjoyed the story and I would still recommend it, even with the ever-present 1980s economic attitudes.
