  Paddington in Peru 2024

  I spend far too much of my time thinking about the poor souls who work in the Paddington Shop at Paddington Station, where the trailer for this movie has been playing on-repeat for months. I’ve wandered through a couple of times over the past year, my eyes bulging at an overpriced pencil-case made of crap plastic with this bear printed on.

  This seems a perfect metaphor for how London as a city has embraced Paddington, plastering his pleasing, polite, fluffy…

  Really astonishing!

  I’ve heard some folks call this film ‘a new type of filmmaking’ and while I agree to an extent- these filmmaking techniques have been around for decades (Look not further than Hardcore Henry or Peep Show). The difference for me is sincerity. I can’t recall a time anyone’s made a feature like this and taken it this deadly seriously. The camera acts, and is treated like a character.

  Now I do wish the film wasn’t shot at f1.8…
