Apart from having empathy towards Ian, I do feel it towards Debbie as well. Imagine falling in love with the most broken man you could have ever met; imagine forgiving the numerous betrayals committed against yourself; imagine, that one day you arrive in the morning and see the love of your life completely gone. Probably would've left a void that might not be filled with anything in this world.
