My big takeaway here is that Emma Corrin is a motherfucking STAR. To do what they’re doing in a film of this scale is breathtaking.
Seven years ago, in a fit of fury, I posted this review of The Dark Tower. Feels like my letterboxd account isn't complete without it:
THE DARK TOWER (sponsored by Verizon™) is terrible. I've never felt the need to vent on social media about a film destroying a franchise I hold dear to my heart, but...
As far as I can tell, the film did not contain a single scene from *any* of the books -- which wouldn't have bothered…
There’s an unexpected connection between Tom Cruise’s character here and Jack Nicholson’s in THE SHINING.
Both characters are hiding something, putting on a performance to the outside world in hopes of maintaining the facade. There’s a thing both characters do, which is stiffly address their wives by their first name. Hard to explain, but somehow they way they both do it reveals a lot about how much they’re hiding - Nicholson his alcoholism and Cruise his extreme horniness.
Anyway, this is a great film about being horny and then being disappointed in yourself for being too horny.
