This movie is ambitious. it has some very good jumpscares, and good, if not only okay cgi. But alot of the back plot floats between unnecessary and poorly done. I thought it was an odd choice to exclude the dad from the actual events (i kind of want to hear how they explain to him what happened). But i assume they were going for a trauma bond family story? And so maybe they thought his presence might have failed to…
A major step-up from the 3rd movie. Not only because it does something different from the first 2 but because its a lot more unsettling. I still wouldnt call this the scariest movie ever. Far from it. But it has a lot of scenes where the camera isnt afraid of the ghosts. Which is Something i hated about the other movies. Rather than a horror this movie aims closer to a psychological thriller. It introduces its main concept in a clear and concise way that doesnt feel super patronizing. It has its twists and turns and jaw dropping reveals. But it still has its clichés. And while the ending is indeed a twist, it feels very "self imposed" and rather dramatic, and even a little bit unnecessary. The charecters seem smart enough but they also seem rather anxious and panicy. But overall a very good take on the movie genre (no spoilers)
