The film that launched Disney Animation's second golden age, and it is just as stunning today as it was then. Fairy tale based, although fortunately lightened up from the Hans Christian Andersen story. Beautifully animated with some of the best songs every to grace a Disney film thanks to Howard Ashman and Alan Menken. I hadn't seen it in a good 15 to 20 years, and that's too bad. Definitely worth revisiting far more often than that.

Son Goro's first time out directing a Ghibli film, and it's solid enough. I read all the Earthsea books when I was a kid, but I've only recently read A Wizard of Earthsea. This film was an adaptation of (I think) the third book in the series. I need to get back to those. Anyway, it's a good story with gorgeous animation. For me it's a solidly middle tier Ghibli film.

I love everything about this film. I went in expecting one thing (and got it). But then there was the turn, and I was ALL IN. Just brilliant filmmaking. I loved the lighting, the score, the production design, great performances, a couple of absolute WTF moments. Damn, this is good.

Wow, what a movie! I went in blind, and I'm glad I did. Amazing direction, amazing acting, amazing story - it's got it all. It's certainly brutal - the camera rarely shies away from the violence. There were a few times where even my desensitized eyes had to be averted. It's a long film, but I didn't feel it. Watched it free on Tubi where the commercials…
