  I hate to say it, but this was the most disappointing theater trip I've had in awhile.

  Pieces of this are great - Robert Pattinson is committed in the central dual roles, Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette are dialed up to an 11, Darius Khondji's films always look phenomenal, and Bong Joon Ho obviously knows how to direct the hell out of a film.

  And yet, everything combines into this Frankenstein tonal mish-mash that abandons plot points and picks up…

  I watch so many movies that it's rare these days that I get the feeling I'm watching something truly new. 5 minutes in, I knew "Beau is Afraid" was going to be one of the most creative films I'd ever seen.

  Third time watching this in four days and it’s gotten better every time.

  The third act has gone from my biggest (only) issue to my favorite part, and the Strauss-Oppenheimer rivalry feels much richer and fleshed out upon rewatch. 

  An absolute masterpiece and the movie of the year so far.
