  Kaidan (not to be confused with Kwaidan) seems to have pretty 'meh' reviews all across the interwebz, which is pretty undeserved. If you're expecting a scare-fest, then I'll grant you, this ain't that film. It's more of a modern day love-letter to 1960s-70s films like Ugetsu or Kwaidan. So you have to go in expecting eeriness and not scariness and on that score I think it's effective.

  I swear a lot of this on a technical level should be very funny. It just almost always fails on execution in a way where you'll always be thinking "Yeah I get the joke. I should be laughing. Amd yet, I'm not."
  I kept rooting for the film, but I also have to be honest. I never laughed. Not once. I only thought that I should be.
