Blue Jasmine 2013
cate was so, so good. an incredible performance that portrayed a spiraling, desperate character hoping to keep up appearances of wealth while having nothing in her life together. she and sally carried this, unassisted by baldwin's bland 'acting' and the absolute jump scare that was louis c.k. ugh.
it's a creative spin on streetcar, and I felt like the blues music really sets the comparison in place. its bright lighting shone in contrast to jasmine's misery, and her teary, red face stood out against the walls of that cheerful, simple yellow house. is ginger doomed? possibly, but jasmine certainly is.

it's a compelling story about an interesting man and family, and the documentary is able to perform analysis on its subject while not alienating him. The radicalization theory presented is thoughtful, which gives it a 'bigger picture' point. i really enjoyed the animations! still, callaghan's history, which he sort of alludes to in the phone call from kelly, leaves a negative haze over the project. one wonders if callaghan presented kelly too well, and intervened more than necessary in the making of this. is this a documentary if he orchestrates major plot points in order to film them?
