Do I think the decision to leave Dylan's convictions unapparent, while a sly and admirable choice given his nature, was really what I wanted by the end of this? Not really. Is it something that I find offensive or unforgivable? Definitely not. Still super interesting. Really great feeling movie. Very pretty, unbeatable score obviously. By far my favorite Chalamet performance, partially for how much he nails the Dylanisms, but also for some of his choices in tone and energy. Really felt like he got down to the heart of it. Very happy this exists.

circumnavigates certain political and cultural norms of how pedophilia and victimhood are traditionally expressed in film (very black and white) to pursue how this sort of violence and trauma can effect perceptions of love, sexuality, self worth, relationships, and even memory. a great movie, but really even above that, an important one.
