Moonrise Kingdom 2012
Yes it’s taken me 13 years to see this, I thought it was more recent but actually that makes me even more impressed with how well it holds up. Especially when I’d say it’s tons better than Asteroid city and possibly better than Grand Budapest Hotel, which was my favourite Wes Anderson Joint. The cast are all perfect, in both casting and performance, the story is thrilling from start to end, which with the setting is quite a feat, but Anderson manages to turn the child like mundane into a high stakes rollercoaster where you can’t see the next turn coming.

I am a fan of paint by numbers horror, and this doesn’t disappoint, it feels unique, even if iv just forgotten previous death countdown films, maybe not an app but there defo is. When I heard the furore I thought it was a taste thing, surely it can’t be that bad. Yes, it 100% can. The writing is horrifically derivative and lazy, the acting does nothing to help, maybe it couldn’t have anyway and for a massive budget movie it somehow feels like it’s on the set of a play. Didn’t get farther than 20 minutes and doubt I ever will.
