Ended up being a bit of an Okja in space and it’s frequently entertaining. Covers the same kind of narrative beats and themes as the majority of Bong Joon Ho movies which isn’t a bad thing at all in my opinion!

Past Lives 2023
When I finished this movie, a line from a Cormac McCarthy book came to mind:
“There is no one to tell us what might have been. We weep over the might have been, but there is no might have been. There never was.”
This is a film that makes you think about your own life. Feel sad over the person you were and no longer are but also try to find comfort in the idea that whoever you are at that moment and wherever you find yourself is destined.
This film will really stick with me.

I ate my popcorn like a pig when watching this. It is a pure popcorn movie. When the movie ended I had to use the bathroom and this rouge piece of popcorn that must’ve missed my mouth fell into the urinal. As I drowned that poor little piece in urine and watched as it disappeared down the drain in true “fate worse than death style”, I couldn’t help but feel bad that it was denied the possibility of fulfilling its true purpose; a purpose fulfilled by its little brothers and sisters: to be snuffled up during a bloody good popcorn movie.
