Nice slow and silly film about a failing Italian restaurant. Been watching a lot of kitchen nightmares since this and imagining what chef Ramsay would have done with the place.
I recommend it purely for the final scene where Stanley Tucci silently cooks and eats an omelette for 10 minutes. I think of it every time I make breakfast now.
Didn’t read anything about this before launching in, just knew I wanted to watch it based off the teaser. I think this threw me off though because I loved the eerie tone of the first part (esp Mark Heap as mr Thomas) and was expecting it to continue for the whole film. While I enjoyed Jarvis Cocker as an exasperated rat in part two, I wasn’t quite there for the crusty house boat refurbishment and sailing off into the sunset…
Love a good romantic film. Saw this years ago but had forgotten most of it so it was quite a treat. Beautiful shots and so many good characters. The sepia colouring of the whole film is quite extreme but you get used to it - and it adds to the fantasy/dreamlike feeling of it. Some of the Wes Anderson-esque sequences like the ‘random things happening at the same time’ feel a bit cliche now but maybe that’s because it set a trend.
