  The Impossible Voyage 1904

  I always just assumed these early 1900s films were meant to be watched in black and white. Having just learned about stencil colored films, seeing this for the first time was surreal. The technological limitations of the time, with the set design and crude coloring techniques, along with the lack of a coherent story, really make these a unique experience. You might not understand what you’re seeing, but it’s cool to watch it anyway.

  This felt like a Safdie brothers movie meets a David Lynch movie meets an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. I don’t know if that’s a very good description but those were the things it reminded me of most. It was funny, absurd, and just a crazy watch from beginning to end. Highly recommend.
