Donnie Darko 2001
Needed to sleep on this one. First of all, the needle drops in this movie are insane (esp. the “Head Over Heels” scene). But also what a great movie to dig into and mull over. At first blush I took the zany time-travel stuff more or less literally, but now I’m increasingly convinced it’s all imagined as a sort of hero fantasy. Either way, it works as a really brilliant story about teenage angst, mental illness, and trying to make sense of life and death

Timothee is great in this (and in the press tour between college gameday, the nardwuar interview, etc). Felt a bit directionless at times and too cute with the cameos but hey maybe that’s just how the man’s life was. Anyways if I had my guitar rn I would play Girl from the North Country, I love that song
